Jurgen Klopp has issued an update on the fitness of James Milner and Xherdan Shaqiri this afternoon, insisting both would miss the Southampton clash tomorrow.
Milner has struggled with a muscle issue and Shaqiri has been nursing a hamstring strain in recent weeks though both are nearing a return to action.
“Shaq and Milner are not available for Southampton but they are close,” Klopp said.
Adam Lallana has returned to full training after recovering from illness and Divock Origi could train today. The Liverpool striker was forced off against West Ham as a precaution.
“Always when a player has to come off it’s a concern, especially when you play again three days later.” Klopp said.
“But he told me it was cramp and let’s hope that it is like this and then he should be ready again.” He finished.
Liverpool take on an in-form Southampton side tomorrow and Klopp has admitted his side must be on their A-game to cope with a team in ‘super shape’.
“[Ralph Hassenhutl] has done an incredible job and we see them playing so well now.”
“The two teams at the moment, other than the top four or five, are Southampton and Wolves. Saints are a pressing machine of the highest level.”
“We analysed them and it was like: ‘wow!’ the highest intensity. So we ask everyone in the stadium, we need an outstanding atmosphere please. That would be really nice.”
