Liverpool are prepared to do anything to sign Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio this summer, according to a report from Spanish publication El Desmarque via Sport Witness.
Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of Asensio and believes the 23-year-old would be the ideal addition to Liverpool’s squad, especially if an injury to Mohamed Salah ever occurred.
Despite Asensio’s ridiculously high €700m release clause, which was inserted when he penned a new contract at the Bernabeu back in September, Liverpool are willing to offer around €75m for his services.
Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane remains reluctant to sanction Asensio’s sale, especially as he regards the Spain international as the “best left-footed player he’s seen since Messi.”
The only way a deal for Asensio could emerge was if the Reds were happy to offer Sadio Mane in part exchange; this is something Liverpool would have absolutely no interest in doing.
Although Asensio endured a difficult campaign in 2018/19, scoring 6 goals and registering 7 assists in all competitions, he remains incredibly talented, while his versatility of being able to play on the wing and as an attacking midfielder makes him appealing.
Considering Zidane’s unwillingness to grant Asensio a transfer combined with Madrid wanting Sadio Mane as part of a deal, this is one move that is highly improbable to go through this summer.
