Barcelona have offered Liverpool the chance to sign Ousmane Dembele this summer, but only if the Reds pay the same they did when initially signing him for £90m from Borussia Dortmund back in 2017, according to an exclusive report from Team Talk this afternoon.
With the impending arrival of Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid, as well as the £65m spent on Frenkie De Jong, Barca chiefs are looking to recoup money this summer and selling Dembele is one way of doing that.
An exit from the Camp Nou would only be possible if a club is willing to match their £90m price tag, and with Anfield one of Dembele’s preferred destinations, perhaps the Reds may be willing to match the fee.
Jurgen Klopp is a known admirer of the Frenchman, and although Liverpool’s manager wasn’t planning to spend huge amounts on players this summer, the availability of Dembele could cause a rethink.
Dembele has showed flashes of brilliance since arriving from Dortmund two years ago, scoring 14 goals and notching 9 assists in all competitions last season, despite persistent injury problems marring his impact.
Signing the World Cup winner would certainly be an exciting statement of intent from Liverpool, but whether the club is willing to spend £90m remains to be seen.
