Simon Mignolet could be set to depart Liverpool this summer, with Crystal Palace lining up an £8m bid for his services, according to a report from The Standard this morning.
With his game-time severely reduced after Alisson’s arrival from Roma last summer, Mignolet is free to leave Anfield in the upcoming months, and will be available for around £8m.
The 31-year-old has also attracted interest from Brighton, as well as a host of clubs in Germany and France, and may look to leave the club in order to search for more regular playing time.
Liverpool may target a move for Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy should Mignolet get his wish in departing Anfield this transfer window, although if no offer matches the Reds’ valuation, Mignolet could be set to stay on as Alisson’s deputy for the next campaign.
This news comes as a surprise considering yesterday’s report from journalist Paul Joyce, where he stated that the Belgium international was set to stay on Merseyside after impressing Jurgen Klopp with his attitude and professionalism. Yet, with Joyce also mentioning that Mignolet could leave should a “Lucas Leiva situation” arise and an offer comes in that satisfies both parties, perhaps Palace’s bid will fulfil this quota.
Having made over 150 appearances for Liverpool since joining from Sunderland 6 years ago, I’m sure all Liverpool fans will wish Mignolet the best, regardless of where his future lies.
