It seems as though Rafa Camacho is very close to leaving Liverpool this summer, with a return to former club Sporting Lisbon “practically concluded”, according to a report from Portuguese publication Record via Sport Witness this afternoon.
Sporting and Liverpool are currently in the midst of discussing the transfer fee and any terms of the deal; although the Reds initially wanted a fee of €10m, they are now willing to accept much less due to Sporting’s willingness to agree to a buy-back option and giving Liverpool a percentage of any future sale.
The Lions are now set to pay between €5 and €6m for Camacho’s signature, with 20% of any future transfer going to Liverpool. The Reds have no qualms with the deal due to their understanding that Camacho simply wants to get more regular game-time.
Although Liverpool were keen on the 19-year-old signing a new deal, Camacho refused to sign due to his concerns over playing time and breaking into Liverpool’s first team. Having only made 2 appearances last season, with both being at his unfavoured position of right-back, a move away was preferred.
