Despite Liverpool’s insistence on keeping him, Divock Origi could leave Anfield before the transfer window shuts in August, with his agent pushing for a move away, according to a report from Estadio Deportivo via The Daily Express today.
Liverpool are keen to tie down Origi to a new long-term deal at the club with the striker’s contract set to expire in 2020. Yet, with Origi still mulling over his future amid uncertainties about playing time, clubs are ready to take advantage of the situation and sign him up imminently.
Although there is interest across Europe, it is Real Betis who currently lead the race for signature, with “a trusted intermediary” of the Belgium international trying to raise interest in his client.
While Origi confirmed that he has received a contract offer from the club and that “he is comfortable at Liverpool”, he still remained coy about where his long-term future lies.
Origi proved himself to be a vital part of Jurgen Klopp’s squad in the second half of last season, and played a monumental role in helping the Reds clinch a sixth Champions League title with his late goal against Tottenham.
Wherever Origi’s long-term future lies, it is certain that he’ll always be remembered fondly by Liverpool’s supporters and has earned true cult-hero status.
