Having landed himself in more hot water for the infamous “stop savin’ chat” scandal a few months back, Trent Alexander-Arnold is set for a little run out of the spotlight and Klopp believes he has just the player to fill in during his absence: Connor Randall.
With Joe Gomez still not ready for action, James Milner needing to be deployed in a midfield role and Rafa Camacho no longer being utilised in the position, according to our sources at AF, Klopp feels Randall is the perfect man to turn to for the title and Champions League run-in.
Although attempting to recall Nathaniel Clyne from Bournemouth has been discussed, Klopp believes Clyne is no better than what he already has at his disposure in Randall and he’d prefer to give the opportunity to someone he believes has a long-term future at the club.
Having been part of the team that earned Klopp’s first ever win as Liverpool boss back in October 2015, the manager has a soft spot for the 23-year-old and with the added experience of loan spells at Rochdale and Hearts, Klopp wants to give Randall the chance to step in and fill Alexander-Arnold’s shoes.
Arguably one of the most naturally gifted defenders in Liverpool’s illustrious history, Randall’s no-nonsense approach could be exactly what Liverpool need to take that extra advantage as they chase a potential double.
We all saw how the Kop took Jon Flanagan to heart during the 2013/14 title run-in and with exactly the same Scouse attributes and passion, look for Connor Randall to play a key role in deciding whether the title finally heads to Merseyside come May.
And just in case you hadn’t yet realised, our source “AF” of course stands for April Fools – unfortunately you won’t be seeing an appearance from Connor Randall this season (or ever) in a Liverpool shirt.
