Liverpool are lining up a potential move for Real Soceidad defender Diego Llorente this summer, according to an article from Basque publication Noticias de Gipuzkoa the other day.
The report from Spanish outlet, also backed by Flaming Hairdryer, has stated that Klopp has previously scouted the 25-year-old and has been impressed to the extent that he is considering making a £26m bid in the summer to add him to the defensive ranks, although the Reds are set to face stiff competition for Llorente’s signature, with local rivals Everton also thought to be keen.
With long-term injuries occurring for both Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren this season, while Joel Matip is far from the least injury-prone player, Liverpool will be looking to strengthen their central defensive options, with Llorente currently one option. Matthias Ginter of Borrusia Monchengladbach and Matthijs De Ligt of Ajax have also been linked with a switch to Anfield recently.
Llorente is also believed to have a £45m release clause in place in his contract with Sociedad, although it is unknown whether they’d be willing to sanction his sale for less.
A solid ball-playing centre-half and also a threat from set-pieces, with the Spanish international managing to net 7 goals for Sociedad last season, it would seem a shrewd purchase for Liverpool to add defensive depth.
