Liverpool were held to a stalemate by Bayern Munich at Anfield this evening, with a big challenge ahead in three weeks time to try and progress to the quarter finals.
Despite a lacklustre display from an attacking perspective, the Reds were impressive in both defence and midfield with one player standing out above the rest, during the first half in particular: Jordan Henderson.
Although he’s often maligned by sections of the fanbase, it was difficult to find any faults with the captain’s performance today; not only was his work ethic and pressing excellent throughout, but a great ball over the top to put Salah through on goal was far from the “sideways/backwards” passing he’s supposedly known for.
There were superlatives aplenty when it came to describing Henderson’s performance on Twitter, including praise from Gary Lineker:
Jordan Henderson is on it tonight.

Jordan Henderson has been unreal.

With Keita and Wijnaldum also performing well and Fabinho likely to return to midfield, Klopp will have a real selection headache ahead of Sunday’s trip to Old Trafford. It’s certainly hard to justify dropping the captain after tonight’s showing.
