Liverpool’s Under-23 star Bobby Adekanye is set to leave the club for free upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the season, according to a report from The Liverpool Echo this morning.
The 19-year-old is thought to have rejected a contract offer from the Reds’ last month in favour of a move to one of the many European sides keen on acquiring his services.
Adekanye’s representatives have held official talks with Lazio over a move, while a return to the Netherlands remains a possibility.
The Dutch youth international has shown some impressive signs for Neil Critchley’s side and has starred in European fixtures at youth level; unfortunately his progress has still been marred by injuries and a lack of consistency.
Adekanye moved from Barcelona’s La Masia academy back in 2015, although yet to make the step up to the first-team while the likes of Rafa Camacho and Curtis Jones are doing so, you can understand his desire to move on.
Time will tell if Liverpool will end up ruing Adekanye’s departure.
