Liverpool are set to enter the race for Chelsea youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi and sign the winger away from the grasps of Bayern Munich, according to a report from German publication Bild yesterday afternoon.
Hudson-Odoi has been one of the major topics of discussion within the media this month and having recently turned down Chelsea’s contract offer of £85,000 a week, he looks destined to depart Stamford Bridge before the window concludes.
Bayern Munich were thought to be the prime candidates for the 18-year-old’s signature — they even had a mammoth £35m bid rejected by Chelsea and could be set to increase this amount in the upcoming week.
However, Bild believe Bayern’s hopes of bringing Hudson-Odoi to the Bundesliga will be far from straightforward as Liverpool have already met with the Englishman and his agent in an attempt to prise him to Anfield.
The report also indicates that Bayern fear Liverpool will not only beat them to Hudson-Odoi, but also to RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, who has been linked extensively to both clubs in recent weeks; the Bundesliga champions are keen to get both onboard before Liverpool hijack a possible deal.
Skilful, possessing pace in abundance and with limitless potential, Hudson-Odoi would be an excellent signing for Liverpool, although you have to imagine Chelsea would be reluctant to sanction a move to a direct rival.
Despite being desperate to keep the winger in West London, Chelsea are resigned to losing Hudson-Odoi, who is frustrated at a lack of first-team opportunites and they’d much rather lose him to Bayern than Liverpool.
