Despite initial reports stating that Jurgen Klopp was willing to send Liverpool youngster Rafa Camacho on loan to former club Sporting Lisbon for the second half of the season, the manager has today confirmed that Camacho will be staying put at Anfield this month.
Although Klopp was supposedly open to allowing Camacho to leave a few weeks ago, a multitude of defensive injuries and Nathaniel Clyne’s loan switch to Bournemouth has led to him deciding to keep the 18-year-old until at least the end of the season.
“No Rafa will not leave”, Klopp said in his press conference today. “That’s the answer!”
Camacho made his first competitive appearance for Liverpool on Monday night, starting at right-back and playing the full 90 minutes in a disappointing FA Cup exit to Wolves.
Klopp has been highly impressed with the Portuguese youth international, who is now consistently involved in first-team training at Melwood and may still play a part for Liverpool before the season’s out; early exits from both domestic cup competitions may make game-time harder to come by.
