If you’d told most Liverpool fans pre-kick off that they’d win the Merseyside Derby through a fortuitous Divock Origi winner in the final seconds, most would have laughed at you. Having not featured for the Reds in the Premier League since August 2017 and with one 10 minute cameo this season, the probability of him becoming the hero looked slim. But that’s exactly what he was.
You probably could have looked away when Virgil Van Dijk drifted a hopeful ball into the box with seconds remaining and even the most optimistic of Liverpool fans couldn’t have predicted Jordan Pickford spilling the ball into the path of Origi to head home.
It was a real storybook moment for Origi, who has really struggled for the past few years since (ironically) suffering a debilitating injury at the hands of Ramiro Funes Mori in a feisty Merseyside Derby back in April 2016 and with his career not really the same since then, it was a particularly feel good moment, which fans were quick to acknowledge on Twitter.
That goal was for Funes Mori. The man thought he ended Origi's Liverpool career when in fact the man just ended your old club.

Divock Origi may just be the greatest Belgian to grace the Premier League.

Origi is just smiling non-stop in the interview. So happy for the lad.

It was impossible not to feel pleased for Origi, who’s been patient and bided his time this season and his joy at the full-time whistle was a delight to see.
Although it’s unlikely to change his fortunes at Anfield too much and a move away is probably still beneficial for his career, he’ll always have this moment and can go down in history in Merseyside Derby folklore.
