Liverpool are keen to boost their efficiency in attack when the transfer window opens in less than a month’s time and are apparently interested in a move for Nantes striker Emiliano Sala, according to a report today from football site The Wistle.
Sala, who has scored 11 goals in 12 appearances for Nantes this term, is viewed by Klopp as the perfect player to bring experience and goals in an attempt to boost their title hopes and talks have reportedly already been held between Liverpool officials and Sala’s representatives.
Nantes would hope to receive about £25m for the striker who joined from Bordeaux in 2015, although Liverpool will face competition from fellow Premier League sides Crystal Palace, Fulham and Burnley in any attempts to sign the 28-year-old.
Fulham are thought to be the main rivals for his signature, as Sala could be keen to link up with previous boss Claudio Ranieri, who he enjoyed great success with at the Stade de la Beaujoire last season.
Nantes believe now is the prime time to cash in on the Argentinean, whose value has never been higher and with only 18 months left on his deal, the Ligue 1 club want to get as much money as possible in January.
Despite his goal record, Sala would appear to be a peculiar signing for Klopp — he’s more of a traditional target man with a physical presence up top; considering he’s a similar mould to Christian Benteke, who Klopp neglected during his spell at Anfield, a move for Sala would seem questionable.
However, Sala certainly guarantees goals and would offer a different outlet for Klopp up top and could be a potential gamechanger late on.
