Liverpool are apparently interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen winger Kai Havertz, according to a report from German publication Sport Bild via The Mirror yesterday.
Havertz, who is currently valued at £55m by Transfermarkt, has attracted interest from the likes of Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Manchester City, Paris Saint Germain, Real Madrid and Manchester United thanks to his displays for Leverkusen this season and Liverpool face a tough battle in any attempt to capture his signature.
Leverkusen are thought to want around £70m for Havertz’s services — having only penned a new deal with the club back in the summer with a contract that runs until 2022, they believe it’s a reasonable fee for a player with 2 caps for Germany aged only 19.
However, currently sitting in 11th place in the Bundesliga, Leverkusen chiefs are concerned that a lack of European football could convince Havertz to seek a move away.
A highly talented winter, Havertz has shone for Leverkusen this campaign especially in the Europa League, where he has managed 3 goals and 3 assists in just 4 appearances.
It thus comes as little surprise that Klopp is keen on the youngster, who could act as the perfect rotation option for Salah and Mane on the wing.
Yet with Leverkusen demanding such an inflated amount for his services, it seems probable that Havertz won’t end up at Anfield — especially not in January.
