Liverpool fans received some great news this morning after Joe Gomez decided to commit his long-term future to the club by signing a new five-year deal.
A new contract until 2024 is a richly deserved reward for Gomez, who has been in outstanding form this season alongside Virgil Van Dijk, and will come as somewhat of a consolation after suffering a 6 week injury setback after fracturing his leg against Burnley last week.
Supporters were overjoyed by the news and were quick to praise the English international on Twitter:
Reckon Joe Gomez can be as good as Rio Ferdinand. https://t.co/W21Zl6mmhZ

Glad we’ve got Joe Gomez on a 6 year deal. The lad has been really unlucky with his injuries but that hasn’t stopped him from fulfilling his potential, finally getting his chance to partner Van Dijk and one of our best performers this season. Cannot wait for him to return.

Gomez initially struggled following his £3.5m move from Charlton Athletic in the summer of 2015, rupturing his ACL merely days after Klopp arrived at Anfield, before unfortunately suffering a Achilles injury that prevented him from making a first-team appearance until January 2017.
The resilience the 21-year-old has shown to come back from setbacks at such a young age is remarkable and it is testament to his drive and talent that he can now lay claim to being arguably the finest young centre-back in England.
With Alisson, Van Dijk and now Gomez committing their futures until 2024 and with Robertson and Alexander-Arnold tied down until 2023, Liverpool have a defensive unit which can be a staple for years to come.
