The agent of Flamengo’s attacking midfielder Lucas Paqueta was apparently in Liverpool on Friday to discuss the potential sale of his client, according to a report today from Italian journalist Andersinho Marques via Football Facts.
It was initially believed that Paqueta’s agent was heading to Italy to finalise a deal to bring the Brazilian to AC Milan, a move which has been rumoured for a long time by the press, but instead he was Merseyside bound.
Liverpool aren’t the only side chasing the 21-year-old’s signature, with interest also reportedly coming from Milan, Juventus, Barcelona and rivals Manchester United, which means any attempts to sign the midfielder will be far from straightforward.
Although Paqueta has a release clause in his contract for £44m, it is thought that a deal could potentially be reached for a figure far lower.
Marques has previously been right about the transfers of other Brazilian stars to Merseyside, including Alisson’s move from Roma in the summer and Bernard’s move to Everton, so there is certainly an air of legitimacy about the reports.
Having made his debut for Flamengo in 2016, along with 2 appearances for the national side this year, Paqueta is highly experienced despite still only being 21, and it’s understandable why he has many top European sides after his services.
With 10 goals in Série A this year, Paqeuta is adept in front of goal as well as a creative playmaker and if Liverpool can scupper what remains a likely move to Milan, he would be an intelligent signing.
