Liverpool put in another abject away performance in the Champions League against PSG to put any chance of qualification to the knockout stages highly unlikely, with the Reds now needing to win by a 2 goal margin in the final game versus Napoli to reach the last-16.
The major problem that Liverpool had in the game was the midfield three; fans had already questioned Klopp’s decision to opt for Henderson, Milner and Wijnaldum prior to kick-off and their performances showed why the fume was justified.
A lack of creativity, control and ability to provide a link to the attack rendered the trio practically useless and it was little surprise to see supporters tear into them on Twitter for yet another dire game away from home:
Watching PSG run rings around our Hendo, Wijnaldum and Milner midfield with Fabinho, Keïta and Shaqiri sat on the bench. pic.twitter.com/x3pAmWxKP7

Just annoys me that we spend £100 million on a midfield that doesn’t play, it was our problem last year and now we still don’t play our strongest midfield

May aswell just play with eight men that’s how non-existent this midfield is.

This midfield is way too slow for this level. Being absolutely torn apart.

While the midfield improved somewhat after the break, with Naby Keita providing much needed energy after his arrival, it didn’t make up for what was frankly terrible in the first half.
Henderson was guilty of too often looking for the safe option and providing a lack of cover, Milner looked jaded and slow while Wijnaldum put in yet another ‘ghost’ performance, where his impact wasn’t felt in the 65 minutes he was on the pitch.
Liverpool now have it all to do in their final game against Napoli but with the odds far from in their favour, a special European night will be required or the Europa League beckons.
