Liverpool are apparently keen on making a move for winger Iker Muniain in the summer upon the expiry of his contract with Athletic Club at the end of season and according to Spanish publication El Gol Digital, Klopp may be willing to sacrifice summer signing Xherdan Shaqiri in order to get his man, with Real Betis ready to pounce.
The Reds have seemingly already made an offer for Muniain according to reports from his homeland and with pace in abundance and terrific with the ball at his feet, he would be an astute signing to provide competition for the forward line at Anfield.
However, if the Spaniard does arrive on Merseyside in the summer, it is likely to push Shaqiri further down the pecking order at Liverpool and Klopp could move on the Switzerland international to accommodate Muniain’s arrival.
This will certainly not come as welcome news to Liverpool fans, who have really taken to Shaqiri since his arrival from Stoke City in July and costing only £13.5m, he already looks the bargain of the season.
The 27-year-old has offered a new dimension to Klopp’s attack and has flourished as the link between midfield and attack, providing the creative spark that has often been amiss. With 3 assists and a goal in his last 2 starts, he has since disproved the myths of being lazy and ‘not a Klopp player’ that surrounded him prior to his transfer.
With Klopp full of praise for Shaqiri, it seems highly unlikely that he’ll be moved on in the summer, even if Muniain does come in, but it will be intriguing to see who gets shifted out upon his potential arrival.
