A return to the Europa League looks a dangerous possibility following Liverpool’s embarrassing defeat to Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League this evening; although nobody played well for the Reds, one man has once again taken the brunt of the criticism from fans on Twitter: Adam Lallana.
Lallana looked far from good enough throughout the game, constantly misplacing passes, mistiming tackles and providing no link from the midfield to the attack — something which should be expected of him in the role.
Does Lallana even look before eventually passing?

One of Klopp’s few flaws is the fact that he constantly opts for loyalty ahead of quality. It’s the only reason that Lallana continues to get minutes when fit. No other top side in football would accept a player of Lallana’s quality starting in a Champions League fixture.

When Lallana starts, we’re down to 10 men. It’s as simple as that.

Klopp’s words prior to the game that “Lallana is ready” couldn’t have looked further from the truth. Cumbersome and ineffective, the team has unfortunately progressed without him during his lengthy injury absences and he now looks far from the quality required.
Although no Liverpool player can have their head held high with dreadful performances all round, based on tonight’s display, time certainly looks up for Lallana at Anfield.
