Via @TheKopiteOff’s Twitter account, Football Leaks have revealed all the details behind Virgil Van Dijk’s lucrative contract at Liverpool, including all bonuses and incentives.
Van Dijk’s contract, which he signed in January when he became the most expensive player in Liverpool’s history, has multiple playing time and defensive bonuses, earning a set amount for each clean sheet he manages to keep. With the Reds having kept 7 clean sheets already this season, this is surely a bonus Van Dijk is going to seemingly earn frequently.
One bonus he may not reap the rewards of is one related to goal scoring — the defender will pick up an extra £20,000 for every goal he manages to score for Liverpool. After scoring a late winner on his debut in the Merseyside Derby, the Dutchman has failed to net for the Reds since, although his ability in front of goal has come more to the forefront for his country.
Even with the huge £75m transfer fee and contract, Van Dijk has so far proven to be worth every penny and then some; he’s completely revitalised Liverpool’s defence and his impact cannot be understated.
