Liverpool put in another highly disappointing performance away from home in Europe this evening, with a 2-1 loss meaning the Reds now need to win by a 2 goal margin against Napoli on the final day to ensure qualification — by no means an easy task.
Although the midfield received the brunt of the criticism for their abject display in the first half, the defence were also on the end of anger from fans; while blame can be placed on Van Dijk for his poor clearance that led to the opener, it was unsurprisingly Dejan Lovren that fans slammed on Twitter:
Imagine actually breaking up your outstanding back line to accommodate Lovren, and then watch as they get dismantled with ease.

Really can't believe how Dejan Lovren just stood and ball watched for PSG's first goal. Credit to the lad, he's capable of some imperious performances, but you just can't make basic mistakes like that in the Champions League.

Lovren’s been exposed for what he is, big time, tonight.

That’s why Lovren shouldn’t play. Way to slow

Caught out by Bernat’s opener, where he stood rooted to the spot for what seemed like an eternity and also struggling hugely against the sheer pace of Mbappe, it was a disappointing night for the Croatian.
In fairness to Lovren, it’s hard to recall him putting a foot wrong this season but when Joe Gomez is shifted from centre-back to accommodate him, it’s easy to understand why fans are frustrated, while performances like tonight make you question as if Lovren can be regarded as a top-level defender.
Liverpool now have it all to do against Napoli at Anfield in order to qualify; an electric atmosphere is guaranteed and hopefully another special European night is in the near future.
