Usually the subject of ire from Liverpool fans and typically the subject of ridicule from rival fans, Dejan Lovren has been surprisingly praised in the comment section of Copa90’s FIFA & Chill starring the defender, which can be viewed below:
The sit-down interview was an intriguing introspect into Lovren, who discussed a variety of topics with hosts Poet and Vuj, varying from his feelings on his journey to the World Cup Final, his blossoming friendship with Mo Salah and his difficult upbringing, with an inspiring backstory which eventually led him to the Premier League.
Lovren was also grilled on his comments over the summer where he called himself ‘one of the best defenders in the world’ — a claim he still believes in true, even though “my haters will always say that [he said something wrong]”.
When quizzed on who else he believes ranks as the top defenders in the world, he unsurprisingly named Virgil Van Dijk, along with Raphael Varane and Thiago Silva.
One man Lovren failed to mention was Sergio Ramos, reigniting the rivalry between the pair after May’s Champions League Final disappointment in Kiev.
“Sometimes I don’t deserve the hate, I would say,” he said.
“If you look, Ramos has many more mistakes than me. But he plays for Real Madrid, when you do a mistake you win 5-1 or 5-2, nobody cares about the mistake.”
“I’m quite unlucky in that when I make a mistake it’s 1-0 and the game is finished!”
Lovren was hilarious in the interview and came across as very laid-back, with fans of all clubs uniting in the comment section to show support for the Croatian.
One fan called him “the most honest footballer ever”, with a Chelsea fan even saying “Dejan is coaching material I can’t lie”.
While he may not always be a world-class defender and always seems to have a mistake in him, it’s hard to deny that Lovren is someone you’d want around your football club.
