Liverpool were handed a significant blow in their hopes of qualifying to the knockout stages of the Champions League after a dire display against PSG this evening but the fact a bizarre record was broken on the night may go under the radar — this is the first time in 16 years James Milner has been on the losing side in a match he has scored in.

In a record which stretches back to his first goal for Leeds United at 16 in 2002, up until tonight Milner had always remained undefeated in games which he’s scored in, but his consolation penalty on the stroke of half-time puts this to an end.

Although there are far worse consequences as a result of Liverpool’s defeat tonight, I’m sure Milner will be disappointed to see such a bizarre and impressive record end in such lacklustre fashion.
