Liverpool are reportedly the favourites to sign Cagliari’s 21-year-old midfielder, Nicolo Barella, according to an article published in Football Italia yesterday.
Barella, who is widely regarded as one of Italy’s most exciting young talents, has really come into the limelight this season for Cagliari, making nine appearances thus far and scoring one goal against Atalanta.
His performances this season have gone a long way in seeing his value increase dramatically and Klopp isn’t the only big European side chasing his signature; a bidding war in the summer seems feasible.
Despite this, it is Liverpool who currently are in the pole position to land the star, with Cagliari supposedly wanting a fee close to £44m to seal the deal.
Liverpool’s biggest competition appears to be Inter Milan, with Barella keen on a move there, citing his friendship and admiration for their midfield star Radja Nainggolan as a key factor.
It certainly won’t be easy to sign the young star, who even made his international debut for Italy in a 1-1 draw with Ukraine on Wednesday, but signing him would be a big coup for the club.
