There are some recent reports coming out of Spain that might have Liverpool fans, and many other football fans, scratching their heads.
Interestingly enough, rumours are circulating that Catalan giants Barcelona, are interested in signing Liverpool’s second choice left-back Alberto Moreno.
Mundo Deportivo are reporting that Moreno is part of a three-man shortlist because he has previously played in La Liga with Sevilla, before he moved to Liverpool in 2014.
Having been at Liverpool for nearly five seasons, and his contract ending in the Summer of 2019, Barcelona see Moreno as a good opportunity to find cover for Jordi Alba, especially if they can sign him on a bosman contract for free.
Moreno has had a somewhat rollercoaster ride during his tenure on Merseyside, often frustrating fans with his behaviour both on and off the field. Moreno seems to have all the talent to become a great attacking player, but just lacks the defensive discipline that is so imperative in modern football.
Alongside this, Moreno has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield with the emergence of Andrew Robertson.
The Scotsman arrived from Hull City last summer. However, even before that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp opted to pick James Milner, a central midfielder as his left-back for the 2016/2017 season.
Alongside Moreno, Barcelona’s other targets are Ferland Mendy of Lyon and Jose Gaya of Valencia. But the Catalans see Moreno as more of a solid replacement that would be a good piece of business providing the price is right.
