Despite having just penned a new deal with the club back in September, there continues to be doubts amongst Liverpool fans over Jordan Henderson’s long-term future at Anfield, yet in an exclusive Q&A with the Liverpool Echo this afternoon, James Pearce confirmed he remains “a very important player to the Reds’ season”.
With Fabinho having put in two impressive displays against Red Star and Cardiff, it seemed to put Henderson’s future as a starter in jeopardy — with Fabinho operating as a deep-lying midfielder, it looks increasingly difficult for Henderson to regain his place once he returns from a thigh injury.
However, Pearce squashed these qualms by stating Henderson remains a key figure in Klopp’s plans and there may occasionally be games where he changes the system so both Fabinho and Henderson feature in the same midfield.
In the Q&A, Pearce went on to state that “it was strange to see some people using his [Fabinho] impact to write off Henderson. The fact is that Klopp has got great options in every department – no one is guaranteed a start”.
The fact that Klopp plans to utilise his squad more this season was also emphasised, with Pearce claiming Klopp “will keep on rotating to help ensure Liverpool are able to sustain a challenge both domestically and in Europe”.
There is certainly no danger of Henderson losing the captaincy any time soon either, confirmed Pearce and having only signed a new deal a few weeks back, Klopp clearly sees the England international as a key part of his squad.
