Jurgen Klopp says he was not surprised at the Anfield reception Loris Karius received last night in the Reds’ final pre-season friendly versus Torino.
“I was not surprised to be honest,” Klopp said.
“As a human being I was hoping for it and I loved it. We showed tonight a really nice face and that helps.”
“Not only Loris but the others as well that they see this is a special place. It was a really big gesture.”
Karius has had a torrid time at Liverpool in recent weeks after his confidence was shattered in the Champions League final.
The German showed promising signs towards the end of the 2017/18 Premier League campaign but that costly mistake in Kyiv was enough for Liverpool fans to say they had seen enough.
Alisson Becker has been brought in for what is currently a world record fee for a goalkeeper although that will be a short stay as far as Kepa Arrizabalaga is concerned.
The Brazilian no.1 has demoted Karius to deputy, but he was still grateful for the Reds’ support last night taking to Instagram to say:
“Thank you Anfield for this reception!”
