Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on the fitness of Roberto Firmino and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
After they both reported for club duty in France, both players started their pre-season training with the rest of the squad in Evian, France, this week.
Klopp is optimistic that the duo will play some part of the season opener against West Ham at Anfield in 10 days time. Klopp spoke to Liverpoolfc.com about the duo and with regards to the Brazilian, the manager mentioned “He changed something with his hair, I am not 100 percent sure what, I think now it’s black? And I didn’t see, but I heard during his holiday it was silver – but that’s the only difference.”
The manager went on to add “All the rest is like what it was when he left. It’s good to have him here, he looks in good shape, and if possible we will see [whether he plays a part against Napoli]. Training for the outfield players is obviously different than for the goalies, but we want to see him as well against Napoli. We will see for how long.”
With the Premier League opener against the Hammers next weekend, Klopp’s view on Bobby’s involvement was positive. He stated, “When we start against West Ham, he will have had then two weeks after three weeks off, it should be possible but we will see until then.”
Klopp provided an update on youngster Alexander-Arnold as well. The manager spoke with delight and said “….In Trent’s case, it looks like he is still growing. You can see him after five weeks and it’s like, something is different, maybe a muscle here or there.”
Klopp’s squad is getting back to full size and only Dejan Lovren and Captain Jordan Henderson are yet to arrive for pre-season training. The manager will be hoping that the team can get off to a fast start when the season begins in less than a fortnight.
