Liverpool have today been linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen’s 20-year-old winger Leon Bailey, with the Jamaican telling German publication Kicker that ‘there’s concrete interest’ from both Chelsea and Liverpool.
Bailey stated in a interview that his ‘full focus is on developing as a young player’ and if a club is interested in signing him, his ‘management and Bayer will take care of it’.
Bailey is widely regarded as one of the best young prospects in world football, managing to score 9 goals and get himself 7 assists last season. The 20-year old would certainly flourish in an attacking role under Jurgen Klopp.
Many top European clubs have expressed interest in the winger, with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City making inquiries, while Bayern Munich reportedly offered Leverkusen £53m for his services back in May.
However, with the signing of Xherdan Shaqiri and reported interest in Christian Pulisic, a move for Bailey would seem unlikely in the upcoming days, in spite of his claims.
If Klopp is to sign anyone in the final few days of the transfer window, it seems much more likely it will a creative midfielder able to fill the void left by Coutinho in January, although any chance of signing Lyon’s Nabil Fekir seems improbable at this stage.
