Michael Edwards’ work during the past two seasons for Liverpool has been nothing short of amazing – getting Klopp the men he wanted to mount a title challenge.
When Klopp took over, it was clear that sales and additions would be needed should Jurgen be able to take the Merseyside team back where they belonged.
January 2018, just when everyone thought it was dead in the water, Virgil Van Dijk joined the Liverpool ranks and has become an integral part of stabilising what was a shaky defence.
Klopp had wanted Van Dijk for some time and Michael Edwards never gave up on getting the German exactly what he wanted – much to the delight of Liverpool fans.
However, alternatives were considered according to Dominic King of the Daily Mail.
Tottenham’s Davinson Sanchez, Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and Everton’s Michael Keane were all deemed alternatives to Van Dijk.
But, Klopp always had his heart set on Virgil Van Dijk. The Dutchman has proved Klopp was right to wait around for him.
With Edwards’ biggest transfer coup, Van Dijk, playing so well, Liverpool fans will be hoping that this summers signings can bed in just the same.
Keita, Fabinho, Alisson and Shaqiri will all be hoping that they can all have the same impact and make the 2018-19 season one to remember for all concerned.
