Arsenal Goalkeeper David Ospina has today concluded his departure from the London club.
The Colombian shot-stopper has joined Italian side Napoli on an initial loan deal with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.
After losing Pepe Reina to rivals AC Milan this window, the Italian club was identifying number 1 targets for this season. David Ospina, Guillermo Ochoa and Simon Mignolet were all considered but in the end, the club went with the Colombian.
From a Liverpool viewpoint, the transfer has thrown a little curveball into the future of Mignolet.
The Belgian number 2 has fallen down the pecking order at Liverpool after the arrival of Alisson from Roma. The Brazilian goalkeeper has come in to be the number 1 at the club, leaving Loris Karius as his deputy. That leaves Mignolet third in the pecking order.
Both the Reds and Mignolet are after a permanent transfer this window. The goalkeeper is desperately in search of first-team football. However, as the days go by his options are also diminishing. With Napoli out of the equation, the Belgian international will have to look elsewhere for first-team football.
