The agent of Simon Mignolet has sparked speculation surrounding his clients’ future by suggesting it could take a ‘decisive’ turn in the next few days.
The Belgian keeper lost his claim to be Liverpool’s number one to Loris Karius midway through last season and since then it has been highly likely that he would depart the club.
Whilst Karius’ horror show in the Champions League final in May had opened the door for a slim but potential return to the sticks for the former Sunderland goalkeeper, the arrival of Alisson Becker from AS Roma for a world record fee of £67million this week has seen Mignolet slide down the pecking order once more.
With Mignolet now seemingly third choice behind both Alisson and Karius, the 30-year-old’s representatives have been working to find a new club for the Belgian.
Speaking to Belgian website Walfoot, Nico Vaesen has insisted that Jürgen Klopp’s decision to purchase a new goalkeeper hasn’t affected their plans.
“It doesn’t change the situation (Alisson’s arrival).”
“Our goal is to find a solution for Simon to play and Alisson’s arrival doesn’t change that.
“We know that a player of €60-70m won’t find himself on the bench. We are looking at the situation and looking for a solution to his playing time.
“There are options, the next few days will be decisive.”
In light of Vaesen’s comments, this morning Spanish outlet Marca have sensationally linked Mignolet with a move to Barcelona.
Jasper Cillessen, the Spanish side’s current number two, has become frustrated with his lack of game time and is reportedly seeking a move away from the Camp Nou.
With Barcelona now on the look out for a goalkeeper to be an understudy to Marc-André ter Stegen, it seems Mignolet is firmly on their radar.
