Liverpool are reportedly set to make a audacious £53million bid for Bayer Leverkusen winger Julian Brandt.
Brandt only signed a new deal with his current club in April, but a source close to Bayer Leverkusen told Calcio Insider in May that a new contract was primarily drawn up to overwrite the ridiculously low release clause previously included.
Although the German player is now valued significantly higher at around the €60million mark it hasn’t deterred Jürgen Klopp from wanting to sign his fellow countryman.
It has been widely reported that Liverpool are in the market for a winger to provide an added boost to the attacking options that Klopp already has at his disposal.
Xherdan Shaqiri and Moses Simon are the two names that have been predominantly linked with moves to Merseyside this summer, but the latest update from Calcio Insider suggests that Liverpool have now identified Brandt to fill that void and that the Reds’ will make a move in the coming weeks.
The 22-year-old is currently on holiday having participated – albeit sporadically – in Germany’s dismal defence of their World Cup title.
The Bremen born player was used as a late sub in all three of his countries group games, but can be considered mightily unlucky not to be given more gametime by manager Joachim Löw.
Brandt turned out to be one of Die Mannschaft’s better performers in Russia and was unfortunate not to score with two sweetly strucked volleys against Mexico and Sweden.
