Liverpool forward Sadio Mané has slammed rumours he could join Real Madrid this summer.
The Senegalese International had been previously linked with a big money move to the Spanish side earlier in the window and with the seemingly imminent departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus those rumours are likely to suffice again.
These rumours have undoubtedly worried Reds’ fans especially considering the clubs history of selling players to either Real Madrid or Barcelona. Javier Mascherano, Xabi Alonso, Luis Suárez and most recently Philippe Coutinho have all swapped the cold, winter English nights for the scorching Spanish sunshine over the last decade.
However, Liverpool fans will be relieved to know that Mané himself has shut down any speculation regarding his future.
When speaking to reporters on a visit to his hometown of Bambali the 26-year-old said:
“These are just rumours. I am not aware of anything and haven’t been contacted,”
“I remain a Liverpool player and I will join my team-mates in the United States for the pre-season tour,”
“Real are a great team, but I am focused on my team, Liverpool.”
Mané managed to bag a goal at this summer’s World Cup, but it wasn’t enough to stop Senegal crashing out of the competition at the group stage.
His nation’s early departure will see the former Southampton player hook up with his club teammates for pre-season on Liverpool’s tour of the United States later this month.
