Virgil van Dijk is the latest footballer who has fallen victim to having the details of his contract leaked.
The Dutchman is said to be receiving a weekly wage of £124,658, placing him amongst some of Liverpool’s top earners that include Roberto Firmino and James Milner.
On top of that, Van Dijk was given a £6million signing on bonus and will earn an additional £5million if he remains ‘loyal’ to his current Liverpool contract.
The signing of Van Dijk was always one for the long term and he is set to gain a staggering £4million if he reaches 150 appearances for the club, as long as Liverpool regularly finish in the top four of the Premier League.
Liverpool have been criticised for their defensive frailties over the years, but the ex-Southampton defender has already made a difference to their defence.
The fact that the most expensive defender in football has not been mentioned in any form of criticism for his £75million price tag is promising.
The big man at the back will be hoping to keep as many clean sheets as possible with him set to earn £750,000 for every season that Liverpool reach at least 22 clean sheets. That figure is in all competitions.
The last leak, and perhaps the most unusual of them all is that Van Dijk will bag himself £20,000 for every single goal or assist he makes.
