Liverpool have identified Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles and Burnley’s James Tarkowski as defensive targets this summer, according to the Independent.
The transfer window officially opened on May 17th and Liverpool have already identified various targets this summer, including Jack Butland.
Jurgen Klopp and the transfer committee believe Lascelles and Tarkowski both fit the agenda perfectly, and will attempt to sign at least one.
Also, there are some concerns about the number of home-grown players currently in the Liverpool squad.
Henderson, Lallana, Milner, Clyne, Ings, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ward are all registered as home-grown players in the squad, with Flanagan and Sturridge set to leave this summer.
Plus, the likes of Alexander-Arnold, Solanke, Woodburn and Jones cannot yet be registered as they are considered ‘underage’.
This highlights Liverpool’s need for new home-grown players – especially with the likes of Ings and Ward potentially leaving this summer.
Lascelles, Tarkowski, Butland and Maddison – who is another Liverpool target – would fit the bill perfectly.
The report by Miguel Delaney also mentions that the Reds’ will attempt to target a winger this summer, with Ousmane Dembele and Christian Pulisic linked.
