Liverpool youngster Taiwo Awoniyi seems to have suffered a season ending injury whilst on loan to Belgian side Royal Excel Mouscron, and will return to Liverpool. The Nigerian U23 will be loaned out once again next season.
The on loan Liverpool forward had managed to bag himself 4 goals in 7 appearances for Mouscron this season, but will not be able to play a further part after suffering from a serious hamstring injury.
Taiwo will be very disappointed after making a late claim to be part of Nigeria’s world cup plans in Russia this June. Awoniyi has played for Nigeria’s U23’s but was hoping to get his first senior call up ahead of the World Cup.
Jurgen Klopp is keen on the 20-year old forward, but opportunities will come short at Liverpool next season with the likes of Firmino, Ings, Solanke, Brewster and Jones all ahead in the pecking order.
Instead, the plan will be to loan Awoniyi back out next season at a higher level than the Belgian side. The injury is likely to keep him out until pre-season where Klopp will decide what happens next.
