Dejan Lovren has made the massive claim that Mohamed Salah can now be spoken about in the same sentence as Ballon D’or.
Salah, now known as the ‘Egyptian King’ has scored an astonishing 43 goals so far for Liverpool in his first season at the club.
The Ballon D’or has always been a two-horse race for the last 10 years between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. However, Salah is on track to eclipse both to the crown.
Bookmakers currently have him as the second favourite to the award just behind Ronaldo.
Liverpool defender Lovren acknowledged that Salah should be considered for the award. He claimed,
Lovren: “He is the one. He is becoming the superstar. It looks easy what he does but it is very difficult. If he continues like that – I don’t know if this is the right time to put pressure on him – but I believe he should be regarded as one of the best three in the world at the end of the year.”
Lovren: “He deserves to be mentioned for the Ballon d’Or – when people talk about Messi and Ronaldo they should also talk about Salah. He deserves the credit but I think he deserves, even more, to be honest. Forty-three goals guys, f*****g hell.”
Salah has been a revelation this season in both the Premier League and Champions League. He is currently 1 goal away (31) from becoming the highest goal scorer in a Premier League season in the open era.
Last Sunday, Salah was announced as the PFA Players Player of the Year and if he ends up winning the Champions League with Liverpool and doing well at the World Cup with Egypt he may add to his collection of awards this season with a Ballon D’or trophy come January 2019.
