A Bundesliga update by Sefendo
On January 18th the Reds surprisingly extended Simon Mignolet’s contract until to 2021. But the club has obviously not been satisfied with the performances of the Beligian national keeper. As the “Express”, “Bild” and “Kicker” consistently report, Liverpool have found a potential successor: Mainz 05 goalkeeper Loris Karius seems to be the chosen one.
The German recently signed a contract with Mainz until 2018, but the contract included a buyout clause of 9-10 million euros (£8M) according to media reports. The 22-year old has reportedly agreed personal terms With Liverpool and is on his way to Merseyside.
In a “Goal” interview the goalkeeper revealed in October 2015 that a move to England “would be a dream!” Therefore the transfer makes sense for all parties.
Karius would be a significant upgrade on current keeper Simon Mignolet and one much welcomed by fans.
